3/16 RBC Open Meeting Cancelled: The RBC Open Meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 16th at the CAIR building has been cancelled due to the pending inclement weather.
3/13 On Reservation Conservation Committee opening: The Fond du Lac Resource Management Division is looking for applications for two open positions on the On-Reservation Conservation Committee. The Fond du Lac Reservation Business Committee recognizes the importance of the Conservation Committee. The purpose of the Conservation Committee shall be to promote the management, preservation, protection and regulations of the fish, game, wild rice, natural and woodland resources within the boundaries of the Fond du Lac Reservation. The committee meets every 3rd Thursday of the month. If interested in sitting on the committee please submit a letter of interest. All letters were due to be turned in by March 15th, 2023.
3/13 Gitigaan Class-Seed Rematriation: Tuesday, March 14th, 5:30pm - 6:30pm. Learn the basics of the seed rematriation movement and go home with your own seed bundle. We'll preview the tribal seed that will be available at the Gitigaan Program Plant & Seed Giveaway, in collaboration with grassroots group Seeds Our Relatives. Together we can remember our connection to the land, our ancestors, and food by caring for the seeds. Click here for details.

3/10 Time Change on Boys Basketball Game: The FDL vs. MIB Boy's Basketball playoff game on Saturday, March 11, has been changed from 12:30 pm to 11:30 am, due to impending weather concerns later in the day.
3/7 Gitigaan Classes Starting: Join us on Tuesday, March 7th, 5:30-6:30 p.m. for 'Salve Making with Plant Helpers' presented by Ayeden Diver and Carol Kot, a grandma-granddaughter team who create under the name of Mother Trees Salves, Oil & Soap. This class will be held via Zoom and in person. Free and open to the public. If joining in person, meet us at Fond du Lac Na’enimonigamig located at 964 Cary Road, Cloquet. 2/21 Home Lotteries: The Fond du Lac Development Corporation held a Lottery for homes located at 1780 Grey Birch Ct., Cloquet, 3217 W Moorhead Rd., Cloquet, 3647 W Moorhead Rd., Sawyer, and 3592 Rice Lake Rd., Sawyer. Applications from qualified Band Members were accepted until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 21st, 2023.
2/17 Constitutional Convention: The MCT Constitution Convention will be held on Friday, February 17, from 9 am - 4 pm, at the Sawyer Community Center, and via Zoom. 2/17 Ojibwe Winter Games: Join us at the UMD Bagley Nature Area on February 17 for the Ojibwe Winter Games! Game will feature Gooniikaa-Ginebig (Snow Snake), Dakobijigan-Minawa Zhiimaagan (Hoop & Spear), and Apaginaatig (AtlAtl). There will also be demonstrations, and a free lunch served. 2/2 Public Notice: The Fond du Lac Office of Water Protection has received an application from the Carlton County Transportation Department for a wetland permit under the provisions of the Fond du Lac Wetlands Protection and Management Ordinance (WPMO) for the Brookston Road Reconstruction Project. The project is located on the gravel portion of the roadway between Lund Road and Demenge Road in Carlton County. The project consists of the replacement of all the centerline culverts, the reshaping and regrading of the existing road ditches along the length of the project and the construction of minimum road slopes that meet current safety standards for the projected traffic levels on the road. The existing roadbed will be excavated and bridged with geogrid. Both permanent wetland impacts (1.8 acres) and temporary wetland impacts (3.3 acres) will occur as a result of this project. Grading, drainage, and culvert work will be completed in 2023, with the paving of the road occurring the following year in 2024. 1/13 13 Moons Agriculture Conference: The Thirteen Moons Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Extension program held a Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resources Conference and Round Table Session hosted by the Native American Farm Bill Coalition on January 12th and 13th, 2023. The mission of the conference was to share and learn about topics relevant to Tribal Resource Management and Agriculture staff, Tribal Producers, Federal and State Agencies, and Educators. 1/6 Request for Proposals: The Fond du Lac Development Corporation is soliciting proposals from design and constructability outdoor structure companies for a turn-key outdoor classroom project (including pavilion building design, engineering, product submittals, shop drawings, materials & labor installation). There was a Pre-bid for this RFP via Zoom on January 18th. The deadline for submitting a bid was January 25, 2023, at 4:00 pm.
1/5 Deer Hunting Notice: While deer season on the FDL Reservation and the 1854 and 1837 Ceded Territories in Minnesota has ended, hunters are reminded they can continue deer hunting in Wisconsin ceded territories until January 31st. License, tag and registration details for hunting in Wisconsin are available on GLIFWC’s website http://glifwc.org/ or by calling the Resource Management Division at 878-7155 or 878-7101. FDL hunters are reminded that in order to limit the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease, the head and spinal column from deer carcasses may not be brought back to Minnesota. Only quarters with no part of the head or spinal column attached, or deboned, cut and wrapped venison, hides, finished taxidermy mounts or skulls and antlers that have been completely cleaned of any brain tissue may be brought back to Minnesota.
1/4 Child Care and Development Fund Plan: As part of the Tribal Plan preparation process, federal law requires the lead agency, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the process of child care services and quality activities under the FDL Tribal Plan before it is submitted to the federal government. The plan was available for viewing until January 13th.

12/22 Housing & Community Needs Assessment Survey: It’s not too late to complete the Housing & Community Needs Assessment household survey! This survey is an important data collection project designed to compile accurate demographic, employment and housing information about FDL community members. The data collected during this survey will be used to enhance local programs and attract funding for housing and other community programs. The survey is closed as of December 31, 2022.

Ham Giveaway Update: Here are the rescheduled dates for the Ham Giveaway;

  • Tuesday, December 20th from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Fond du Lac Band members AND Employees will be able to pick up their holiday hams at the Fond du Lac Head Start Parking Lot. (Please note: This is the last day for Band members that have not picked up their hams yet)
  • Wednesday, December 21st from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Fond du Lac Employees will be able to pick up their holiday hams at the Fond du Lac Head Start Parking Lot.

Handwashing with soap and water is one of the simplest, most effective ways to stop the spread of germs and stay healthy. 10/31 Request for Proposals: 210 Facilities Plumbing Improvements. The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will receive and accept bids for the installation of new domestic water meters to the new water service piping and reconnection to existing domestic water distribution piping at five buildings. The disconnection and removal of the existing above ground well pressure tanks, domestic water storage tanks, fire suppression water storage tanks and associated controls. The deadline for submitting a bid was November 17, 2022, at 11:00 am.
10/28 Fall Youth Netting Weekend: To engage Fond du Lac youth by exposing them to the traditional subsistence practices we are offering a chance for Fond du Lac youth to learn about netting for whitefish and tullibee under 1854 Treaty Rights in the ceded territory. 10/28 Pine Valley Buckthorn Bust Event: The Carlton County Weed Management Area will be hosting an event on October 29th, to control invasive buckthorn in Pine Valley Park. If you are interested in learning more about buckthorn, as well as aiding in controlling this invasive species, please sign up using the link in the flyer below. 10/28 Halloween Donations & Trunk or Treat: FDL Human Services is asking community members to donate Halloween costumes and gifts to help celebrate the FDL Halloween party - Trunk or Treat. Donations should be dropped at the old Tagwii building from 8 am - 4:30 pm by 10/27/22. The Trunk or Treat party will be held at the FDL Head Start Gym and parking lot on October 28, from 4 pm - 7 pm. See flyers below for details.

10/25 Child Care Building Ground Breaking: Today, October 25th at 11:30 a.m., Fond du Lac broke ground for the new Child Care Site on old Fond du Lac Football field located between the Museum and Head Start on Big Lake Road. We asked the community to join us as we start this project. Please park in the Tribal Center Parking Lot. Light refreshments were provided.
10/24 Chronic Wasting Disease Sampling: The Resource Management Division is beginning it’s 2022 surveillance program for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). While there is no evidence the disease is present in wild deer in the 1854 or 1837 Ceded Territories of Minnesota or on the FDL Reservation, this effort is designed to monitor for it as a precaution. Tribal hunters can receive a gift card in exchange for submitting a deer head for sampling. Click here for more information.

10/14 Mille Lacs Gill Netting: The Fond du Lac Resource Management Division has decided that there is sufficient quota remaining to warrant a 2022 Fall gill net effort on Mille Lacs. This effort consisted of one night, the night of Friday, October 14, 2022.
10/14 WAREHOUSE GRAB AND GO: There was a Grab and Go for all Fond du Lac Band members at the Warehouse located at 55 Marigold Lane Cloquet, MN 55720 on Saturday, 10/15/2022 and Sunday, 10/16/2022 from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. You must haul and bring your Tribal ID.
10/14 Seed Saving Class: Join us to learn together with Jessika Greendeer, Seedkeeper and Farm Manager, as she shares her lifework of growing and protecting our seed relatives. The class was held on Saturday,October 15, 2 pm - 3 pm at the FDLTCC Commons. Click here for details.

10/7 New Ojibwemowin YouTube Channel: The FDL Gegaanzongejig Language & Culture Program has launched their new YouTube channel. The channel is called “FDL Gegaanzongejig”. 10/4 Forestry Center 5K Run/Walk: The U of MN Cloquet Forestry Center is hosting a free 5k run/walk on the evening of Tuesday, October 4th. Registration will open at 5:00 pm at the log pavilion west of the main parking lot at 175 University Rd. Run/walk start time is at 5:30 pm. The route is a gentle forested loop on the west side of University Rd, primarily on natural surface roads/trails. There will likely be a fire going, maybe a food truck, and/or hot drinks. All are welcome!
